Billiards buddies and pool players, Alex Pagulayan pulled off an exciting 7-6 win over Fu Jian Bo at the start of the QC Philippines vs. The World Grand Villards Showdown at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.

Team Philippines earlier dropped the team, singles and doubles matches to Team World - heading into a shutout - until The Lion pulled off a steal of a win in the second singles event of the day!

In the team event, Team World, led by the able Rodney Morris, opened the QC Invasion: Quezon City-Philippines vs. The World Grand VILLArds Showdown with a 7-4 victory over Team Philippines.

Morris, with fellow world champions Mika Immonen, Thorsten Hohmann, and Wu Chia-ching, got off to a hot start – 2-0 - and fended off a late rally by the Filipino pool players to earn the first point in the race-to-9 billiards competition, which has a cool $40,000 as top prize.

However, the home team, composed of Efren Bata Reyes, Dennis Orcollo, Roberto Gomez, and Lee Van Corteza, capitalized on mistakes made by Team World to tie the match at 2-2.

Team World then won the next four racks to take back the momentum to their court with a 6-2 lead.

Not known to disappoint, Efren Reyes and his teammates tried their best to come back in the game at 6-4, but could not find a decent shot in the 11th rack and gave Team World the chance to complete the win.

For those not in the know, the two teams will figure in the team, singles and doubles events – all race-to-seven, alternate break formats – with the first squad to take nine matches winning the duel, patterned after the Mosconi Cup.

I’m looking forward to more exciting matches tomorrow! And I kid you not!
