Oscar dela Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao: More Updates!

Oscar dela Hoya GraphicOscar dela Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao: Another update!

Boxing fans know that Freddie Roach is never one for overstatement. When Roach speaks people listen because he is one of boxing’s finest trainers and he has never been much for hype or hysteria. When asked a question, he does his best to answer truthfully. Thus, when the subject of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao’s name being prominently mentioned as a possible opponent for 5-time world champion Oscar dela Hoya came up in a conversation, Freddie Roach did not hesitate.

“That fight’s makeable,’’ Freddie Roach said. “We’d need some things in our favor. It can’t be all one way. Oscar wants to fight at 150. We want to fight at 147. I’m pushing for a same-day (as the fight) weigh-in. So we’ll see, but we want the fight.

“It’s a risk and reward type fight. If we can make a fair deal, moneywise and otherwise, then we’ll take it.”

“I don’t feel Oscar can pull the trigger any more,’’ Roach said. “If Steve Forbes can hit him and mark him up (as he did in May) I feel Pacquiao can hit him at will.

A-Kid: I guess timing is everything in sports, particularly boxing. Oscar dela Hoya is 36, while Manny Pacquiao is in his prime. I do not see the Pacman getting hurt. I envision Manny Pacquiao putting it on the Golden Boy.

I sincerely believe that 147 is Manny Pacquiao’s upper limit. After the weigh-in for the fight against David Diaz, Manny was 134 ½ but he had to lose a pound that day. By fight time, he was 146-147. And boy, he was just awesome that day!

At 147, Manny Pacquiao will be too fast and possibly too powerful for Oscar De La Hoya, who was unable to hurt Steve Forbes when they battled it out at the Home Depot Center. Truth be told, Oscar dela Hoya has one great hook but Manny Pacquiao, as a southpaw, naturally moves away from such. Indeed, it is a good fight for Manny Pacquiao!

Oscar dela Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao - I can’t wait for it to materialize! And I kid you not!
