Comedians-TV Hosts Joey De Leon and Willie Revillame, with Former Mayor Joey Marquez at ABS-CBN Interactive!

Just took this screen shot from ABS-CBN Interactive. It accompanied the article, "Sandiganbayan convicts Joey Marquez, 6 others".

  • "The Sandiganbayan Fourth Division on Thursday sentenced former Parañaque mayor Joselito "Joey" Marquez to six to 10 years imprisonment for an overpriced broom (walis tingting) deal, DZMM reported.

Marquez who is also a comedian and host of a showbiz oriented talk show was convicted by the Sandiganbayan for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act."

The article is fine y'all. Yet, i cannot help but notice the picture insert. It's a picture of comedian-TV host Joey De Leon, not former Mayor Joey Marquez. It's the same Joey De Leon (Eat Bulaga, GMA 7) who advised fellow TV host Willie Revillame to be transparent in handling his game show segments in the latter's Wowowee (ABS-CBN, Channel 2). And I kid you not when I say that there is a word war going between Joey De Leon and Willie Revillame. Some say it's a ratings war. I ask,

Hey, ABS-CBN! Was this an honest mistake?
Or are you being naughty?

The Controversy Between Vice Governor Manny Piñol and Diosdado Gabi

North Cotabato Vice Governor Emmanuel Piñol is setting the record straight over the controversy surrounding him and Dabawenyo boxing champ Diosdado "Prince" Gabi. The Vice Governor issued a statement dated August 27, 2007. It is posted at www.thepinoyboxers.com.

For the facts stated in the Vice Governor Piñol's statement,
please click here

The Vice Governor previously issued a statement that he was willing to drop the case against Gabi if the latter will apologize. “If they don't, I will see this case through until the end of my life. That's a promise,” - Manny Piñol. I've read the statement and all. I have also followed Piñol's articles and writings about sports, politics, etc. "Naloko na nga ako, ginagago pa nila ako." I have never seen him write like that. This isn't about money, fame, or contracts. This isn't even about boxing anymore. This is about setting the record straight. It's all about honor. And I kid you not!

Pool Showdown from ABC-5 and Raya Sports!

Saw an interesting read from the Manila Bulletin Online:

Raya Sports, in partnership with ABC 5, will hold the Pool Showdown TV program in a bid to advance pool development and improve the status of the game in the Philippines. Pool Showdown, which will be aired live from 7:00-9:30 PM, Tuesdays and Saturdays, on ABC 5, will debut on September 18, 2007. It will run through December 8, 2007. The venue is at the Rizal Memorial Billiards Center. The show will feature three game formats, i.e., 8-ball, 9-ball, and 10-ball. It will have two groups of six players each playing a ring game (race to 10 points) on Tuesdays. The winner of the ring game will go into the Match of the Week (Saturdays), with the winner becoming the Man in the Hot Seat. Every week thereafter, one ring game will be played on Tuesdays to determine the contender for the Hot Seat.

The Last Man Standing in the grand finals in December will be declared the champion. Prizes are yet to be announced.

Some of the players who will compete in the TV program include:
And yes! They will also see action in the 2007 World Pool Championships in November 2007 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Do you notice anything about the list? Three of the Philippines' best billiards players are missing from the roster. They are Efren "Bata" Reyes, Francisco "Django" Bustamante, and Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan.
Rumor has it that differences between their managers and organizers have something to do with their conspicuous absence from the competition? In my opinion, the organizers could have done more to accommodate any conflicts or disagreements, rumored or not. Compromise? Compromise! Compromise. If Pool Showdown is to be a cliffhanger, the organizers should get Bata, Django, and Alex. These are three of the most exciting players to watch in the world of billiards. And it goes without saying that they are the most-sought after cue artists on the planet! Their presence alone almost guarantees the success of any tournament, local or international. And I kid you not!

Halloween Costumes for Kids at FanShopInc.com

Halloween is just around the corner! And you know what that means! Kids of all ages will be looking for something to wear! Of course, it goes without saying that kids will try to outdo each other with regards to having the best Halloween costume. I could see it now. Some will opt for a superhero outfit, e.g., Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Spiderman, while others will go for the effect of popular motion picture characters, such as Neo (The Matrix), Kids will also try for a witch, a warlock, or even a vampire look. And yeah, I've seen children go the extra mile and don outfits that they themselves made, e.g., costumes depicting aliens from outer space!

All these talk and more brings me to this sponsored post. Ever consider a NFL uniform from Franklin Sports for a Halloween Costume? Kids love them! No kidding! Its merchandise site is packed full of NFL uniform for kids! It's a one-stop shop because Franklin Sports feature all NFL teams - and more! The AnitoKid Learns from Carl Ocab, The KidBlogger!

I first got to know the KidBlogger, my kababayan over at Make Money Online with a 13-Year-Old, when he voted for my site in Digital Filipino's Top 10 Emerging Influential Blog Award for 2007. Except for the stories I've heard about him, i.e., that he is a kababayan and that HE IS very good in what he does (making money online), I didn't know anything about Carl Ocab. I got the chance to personally thank him for the vote at the Top 10 awarding ceremony held at Max's, Makati City. We posed for some pics and had a brief talk about blogs and blogging. And I guess that's how the friendship started.

The KidBlogger and I had an online chat last night. It wasn't scheduled. Well, none of our online chats are. I was reading my email and all when my kababayan popped a Gmail chat window. We exchanged thoughts on various developments in the blogosphere, with emphasis on the blah blah blahs in the local scene. It was about 20 minutes later that I contemplated on asking the KidBlogger about his ideas on making money, specifically Google AdSense. Somehow, I felt that AdSense didn't jive well with my site. The AdSense rules and all are simple enough to understand, but somehow I feel that I've failed to fully connect with Google's ad scheme. You see, I have these analytics tools showing me the number of readers and visitors that I have. And oh! They're decent numbers, dear friends! :) However, I honestly felt that the AdSense promise did not materialize for my site. :(

I was initially hesitant to ask the KidBlogger about it. Why? Well, the premise was, "Who would want to share their secrets on making money online?! Yeah, right." You see, every time I ask people about it, they'll go nuts on the color combinations of the ads, the number of ads in a site, and the other what-have-yous. Yes, they are important and all, but somehow such didn't answer my questions at all. It just added up to the confusion! After taking a deep breath, I asked Carl about it. To my surprise, I found his answers to my questions (and there were a lot of 'em) clear and direct to the point. He patiently highlighted the important points to remember when doing AdSense. He then asked, "Is it alright if I browse your main page?" Now, that is one polite kid! After about a minute, Carl remarked, "Hey! Where are the ads?". He then remained silent. Now, this made me think - is the KidBlogger trying to tell me something here? After 2-3 exchanges, I finally knew what was wrong. What I have failed to account in my efforts to monetize my blog through AdSense was the location of the said ads. Tsk.

"Eh sino nga namang loko-loko ang magbabayad sa akin para sa ads na di naman makita?! Nakatago lahat! Nandun lahat sa baba!" :)

I profusely thanked Carl for his help and apologized for being such a bloke with the AdSense thing. He wouldn't have none of it! The KidBlogger even tried to downplay what he did for me - his suggestions, tips, and all!
Well...
  • "Carl, sometimes common sense is not so common. And there are times that everyone needs a second opinion on something. A different perspective. A different take. And I kid you not when I say that it helps a lot when we have someone like you teach us the rudiments; an expert who understands what needs to be done and how to go about it; a kababayan who has an "all out" attitude to helping a fellow Filipino. My friend, much thanks for taking time out to help me. Much thanks for your patience. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom."

Maraming, maraming, maraming, maraming salamat!

A Tag Heuer for Christmas Via PayPerPost!

Guess what? I just signed up for PayPerPost! I first heard about it from my friend over at The Broken Bow. The Novice Blogger told me that PayPerPost is an interesting concept, and we stand to gain from it in the long run, i.e., making money by creating sponsored content. He was also enthusiastic about meeting and making new friends online at the same time. Yeah, he's such a friendly guy, with a deep perspective to boot! I contemplated on it for a few minutes. I browsed PayPerPost's site amidst thoughts of the Tag Heuer watch that I plan to get as a Christmas present for myself.

To be honest with you, I was a bit surprised after reading all their FAQs and advisories. You see, PayPerPost encourages bloggers to write or say whatever they want. It has no restrictions on how bloggers express their views and thoughts on products and services. PayPerPost also advances the notion that it is committed in protecting and promoting a blog's credibility, not destroy it. Its policy of full-disclosure goes well with my thoughts on blog honor and conflict of interest. As you may all well know, I firmly believe in maintaining the trust of my dear friends and readers. And if I am to receive payment for blogging about a specific topic, my readers should know about it. In my book, it's like truth in advertising. No more. No less.

PayPerPost's proactive and responsible approach to promoting creative content online convinced me to try it out.
I humbly suggest that you try it out, too. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain, e.g., like a Tag Heuer watch this Christmas. And I kid you not!

Howie Severino's Documentary on a Five-Year-Old Filipina

Saw this read from my kababayan over at SideTrip. The post is about Howie Severino's documentary on "children striving to see without eyes." It specifically focuses on Aleeia Maclit, a five-year-old blind Filipina. I admire Aleeia's spirit! Take note of some of her accomplishments:

  • - she can operate a computer with a talking keyboard
  • - sings in Filipino and English
  • - and outtalks Howie!

In my opinion, the post isn't just about Aleeia. It's about life and how one finds beauty in it - how one embraces it. Read more about Aleeia Maclit, our five-year-old kababayan. It's an inspiring read. And I kid you not!
